Algonquin Babies

On February 24, 2012, I received the following information from my good friend Stephen Augustine, Curator of Ethnology, Eastern Maritime, The Museum of Civilization, Ottawa, which correctly identifies the source of the photo and where it was taken.EskasoniM'ikmawBabies

“The reference to the photograph of the “Indian babies” comes from a book written by David Gidmark, Birchbark Canoe: Living Among the Algonquin, Firefly Books, 1997. On page 191 is the photo in question with writing in white ink Grand Lac Victoria; E Racicot Photos 1907. In another publication by David Gidmark, Birchbark Canoe, General Store Publishing House, 1989 on page 30 he credits the National Museums of Canada 1907. The reference Number from our photograph archives in our library is 78-2686-DM.”
